CLE --- Making the Global Local: Human Rights Fact-Finding and Reporting In Our Own Community
12/4/2004 9:00 AM
Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights and the Human Rights Center at the University of Minnesota Law School present a continuing legal education (CLE) seminar on “Making the Global Local: Human Rights Fact-finding and Reporting In Our Own Community.” Presentations will cover an introduction to human rights law; human rights monitoring methods, including how to conduct international human rights fact-finding and reporting; and interview strategies, including working with interpreters and cross-cultural competence. Participants will also choose between two break-out sessions on adapting international monitoring to local situations: (1) examining human rights issues that forced ethnic Oromos to flee Ethiopia for Minnesota; and (2) investigating the impact of September 11 on Minnesota’s immigrant and refugee communities.
