Gay Activist Killed in Sierra Leone
10/5/2004 10:35 AM
A Sierra Leone gay activist was killed last Wednesday on 29 September 2004.FannyAnn Eddy, 30, was repeatedly sexually assaulted, stabbed and her neck broken by people who broke and entered her office.
Ms. Eddy, who founded the Sierra Leone Lesbian and Gay Association in 2002, had earlier this year told a U.N. conference that gays and lesbians faced harassment and violence in Sierra Leone. Ms. Eddy stressed that homophobic attacks often go unpunished, which furthers the discriminatory and violent treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
