Minnesota attorneys Jeff Keyes and Steve Wells will describe their experiences in providing pro bono representation in the post-conviction appeals of death row inmates. The discussion will provide a practical view of capital representation and use the stories of two capital defendants to highlight issues related to capital punishment in the U.S. Application will be made for one CLE credit. This presentation is a brown bag lunch. Beverages will be provided.

Speaker biographies

Jeffrey J. Keyes is a shareholder in the Briggs and Morgan, PA law firm, where he is a member of the Trade Regulation Section and the Franchise Practice Group. He practices primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, antitrust law and franchise and distribution law. He is also a nationally recognized lecturer and teacher on trial practice, franchising and antitrust issues. He graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 1972.

Steven J. Wells is a partner in the Trial, Regulatory and Technology practice group in the Minneapolis office of Dorsey & Whitney, and Co-chair of their Minneapolis Trial group. He practices in the area of complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on intellectual property, franchise and distribution, environmental and construction litigation. He received his law degree with honors in 1983 from George Washington University National Law Center.
