The Exonerated
The Exonerated is coming to The State Theater from April 6 to 11, 2004.  Starring Lynn Redgrave and Brian Dennehy, this compelling story profiles the lives of six innocent death row inmates.  Over the summer of 2000, playwrights Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen traveled across the United States, interviewing 40 of the (then) 89 former death row prisoners. All 40 had been sentenced to death, spent anywhere from two to 22 years on death row and were subsequently found innocent and eventually freed by the state. Their verbatim interviews and individual court documents form the core of The Exonerated. The Associated Press calls it, "Riveting!  Simple, honest storytelling that demands reflection by the audience." The Seattle Post Intelligencer describes it as "artful and absorbing." A question-and-answer talkback session with death penalty experts will follow each performance.

A special performance and pre-show reception, co-sponsored by Thomson West, is scheduled for April 8, 2004, to benefit The Innocence Project and Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights.  Local attorneys Sandra Babcock, Chuck Lloyd, and Steve Pincus will be discussing their experiences in representing exonerees and answering questions from the audience following the performance.

To purchase April 8 benefit tickets, please call Minnesota Advocates at 612-341-3302 ext. 106 by April 6, 2004.
