Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights
Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights is a non-governmental, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of internationally recognized human rights. With the help of the more than 600 active volunteers who contribute an estimated $3.4 million annually of in-kind services, Minnesota Advocates documents human rights abuses, advocates on behalf of individual victims, educates on human rights issues, and provides training and technical assistance to address and prevent human rights violations.

Legal Reform in Bulgaria

Minnesota Advocates staff and volunteers train judges and police in Bulgaria
On March 16, 2005, the Bulgarian Parliament passed “The Law on Domestic Violence”. The law, modeled after Minnesota’s Order for Protection law, is one of the first of its kind in the region to include Order for Protection provisions. Minnesota Advocates is now working to train judges and police in Bulgaria on issues regarding Order for Protection remedies and an improved justice system response to domestic violence.  Read more.
