Resources for Advocates

International human rights law protects all human beings, including migrants. While countries may place limits on who may lawfully enter or reside within their territory, countries must guarantee everyone - regardless of immigration status - certain basic human rights.

The Advocates for Human Rights supports immigration laws and policies which meet international human rights standards including due process, freedom from arbitrary detention, respect for the unity of the family, protection of refugees, and protection of workers. The Advocates for Human Rights is committed to humane reform of the United States' immigration detention and enforcement system and to the creation of just and fair immigration policies which respect the inherent dignity of every person.

The Advocates for Human Rights has a wide range of resources for human rights advocates working on issues of immigrant justice.

  • The Rights of Migrants Toolkit helps advocates get informed, get involved, and get others interested about the rights of migrants.
  • Energy of a Nation.org gives advocates the facts about immigration in easy-to-use resources to help combat anti-immigrant sentiment and to build welcoming communities.
  • The Advocates for Human Rights is part of the Immigration Advocates Network, a free national online network that supports legal advocates working on behalf of immigrants' rights.
  • The Advocates for Human Rights is part of the Detention Watch Network, a national coalition that works to reform the U.S. detention and deportation system so that all who come to our shores receive fair and humane treatment.
