Volunteer involvement is at the core of The Advocates’ mission. One of our longest running volunteer projects is our asylum representation program. Volunteer attorneys from all practice areas represent low-income non-citizens who are seeking asylum in the United States. Volunteer interpreters help translate documents to support asylum cases, interpret for attorney-client meetings, and interpret at asylum interviews. Volunteer medical professionals provide free assessments documenting past harm – including female genital mutilation, scars from torture, and psychological traumas – through the Minnesota Asylum Network.
