Human Rights Education Program and B.I.A.S. Project Internships

Possible intern duties:

  • Review program web pages and assist in updates/changes as the need arises.
  • Help to compile resource lists and educational materials for use with schools and community groups.
  • Assist with planning trainings, workshops, and speaking engagements, including community forums, teacher trainings, attorney CLE (Continuing Legal Education) courses, student workshops, etc.
  • Help to plan special events, such as our Human Rights Day celebration or Annual Human Rights Awards Dinner.
  • Assist with upcoming curriculum projects and new school or community partnerships.
  • Conduct research to update info on existing training materials.
  • Miscellaneous tasks as they arise or as a specific interest develops.

Desired qualifications/experience/interests:

  • Strong organizational and writing skills  
  • Research experience and the ability to analyze data
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in human rights education
  • Interest in refugees, immigrants and other new arrivals to Minnesota
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultures
  • Patience and a sense of humor
  • Fluency in English
  • Student teaching experience is helpful
  • Proficiency in a second language a plus

Time commitment:

 

For fall and spring internship: 8-15 hours per week for a total of 3-4 months

For academic year-long internship: 8-10 hours per week for a total of 7-8 months

For J-term internship: 40 hours per week for a total of one month

For summer internship: 20-40 hours per week for a total of 8-10 weeks

For a fellowship or special project: varies

 

      Minimum of 180 total hours required for most internship positions
