International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR): Ratified on 28 April 1978 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 28 July 1978. 

Optional Protocol to the ICCPR: Ratified on 3 October 1980. Entered into force 3 January 1981.

Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR: No action has been taken.

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR):  Ratified on 28 April 1978 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 28 July 1978. 

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW):  Ratified on 13 September 1982 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 13 October 1982.   

Optional Protocol to CEDAW: Ratified on 9 April 2001 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 9 July 2001. 

Convention on the Elimination of All Form of Racial Discrimination (CERD): Ratified on 29 September 1971 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 29 October 1971.   

Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC): Ratified on 4 September 1990 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 4 October 1990. 

Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OP-CRC-AC): Ratified on 8 May 2002 with a declaration. Entered into force on 8 June 2002.

Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child protitution and child pornography (OP-CRC-SC): Ratified on 28 May 2002 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 28 June 2002.

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Punishment (CAT): Ratified on 7 July 1988 with declarations on Article 22 and Article 21. Entered into force on 6 August 1988.  

Optional Protocol to the CAT: No action has been taken. 

International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (MWC): No action has been taken. 

Convention on the Status of Refugees: Acceded to on 21 December1964.

Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees: Acceded to on 15 September 1983 with declarations.   

Convention on Transnational Organized Crime: Ratified on 23 January 2002 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 29 September 2003. 

Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War: Ratified on 15 Febuary 1956.

Protocol Additional of the Geneva Convention Relating to the Protection of Victims in International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I):  Ratified on 14 July 1989.   

Protocol Additional of the Geneva Convention Relating to the Protection of Victims in Non-International Armed Conflicts (Protocol II):  Ratified on 14 July 1989.     

Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide: Ratified on 24 February 1960 with no reservations, declarations or understandings.  

Convention Concerning Indigenous and Tribal Peoples in Independent Countries: Ratified on 2 February 1994 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 2 February 1995. 

Hague Conventions II and III of 1899: Ratified on 24 November 1903.

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Ratified on 10 November 2001 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 1 July 2002. 

Regional Instruments

Charter of The Organization of American States (A-41): Ratified on 12 Febuary 1954 with a reservation. Entered into force on 12 Febuary 1954.

American Convention on Human Rights "Pact of San Jose, Costa Rica" (B-32): Ratified on 28 July 1978 with a Recognition of Competence (Articles 45 and 62). Peru issued a withdrawal of Declaration/Reservation on 9 July 1999 and a withdrawal of denunciation on 31 January 2001. Entered into force 28 July 1978. 

Additional Protocol to the American Convention on Human Rights in the Area of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (A-52): Ratified on 4 June1995 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. 

Protocol to the American Convention on Human Rights to Abolish the Death Penalty (A-53): No action has been taken. 

Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment and Eradication of Violence Against Women (Treaty in Spanish) (A-61): Ratified on 4 June 1996 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 4 June 1996. 

Inter-American Convention on the Granting of Civil Rights to Women (Treaty in Spanish) (A-45): Signed only on 2 May 1948. 

Inter-American Convention on the Forced Disapperance of Persons (A-60): Ratified on 13 February 2002 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 26 Febuary 2002.

Inter-American Convention to Prevent and Punish Torture (A-51): Ratified on 28 March 1991 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Entered into force on 9 April 1991.

Inter-American Convention Against Corruption (B-58): Ratified on 4 June 1997 with no reservations, declarations or understandings. Declared the Designation of Central Authority: Ministry of Justice on 10 June 2003.  Entered into force on 17 June 1997. 

Inter-American Conflict Laws Concerning the Adoption of Minors (B-48): No action has been taken.

Protocol to the Convention on Duties and Rights of the States in the Event of Civil Strife (C-14): Signed only on 18 June 1957.
