If you are applying for an outside fellowship (i.e. you will have a source of outside funding while you intern at The Advocates) through your school or a fellowship program such as the Upper Midwest Human Rights Fellowship or Equal Justice Works, you must submit your application materials to The Advocates at least 4 weeks in advance of the deadline for your fellowship application. For example, if your fellowship application deadline is February 15th, then you must have your internship application submitted to The Advocates by January 15th. If you are applying for a fellowship, pleace not this on the application form. Proposed fellowships must be directly related to The Advocates' program areas.

Many interns are students; however internship positions are also open to others.  During the school year most interns work 8-12 hours per week. During the summer most interns work 20-40 hours per week. We have fall, spring and summer internships that roughly follow school calendars. Internship applications are accepted on a rolling basis up until the deadline:

Fall: September to December, applications due by August 1 
Spring: January to May, applications due by December 1
Summer: late May/early June to August, applications due by March 15.

In Addition: we seek interns for the month of mid-December to mid-January and for the month of August. You can apply for these internship specifically or extend them onto a fall, spring, or summer internship. If you are able to extend your internship, please note this on the application form. If you are applying specifically for a month long internship the deadlines are:

Winter: mid-December to mid January, applications due by November 15
August: August, applications due by July 1.
