30,000 demonstrators marched from the St. Paul Cathedral to the Capitol where they rallied for pro-immigrant rights legislature. They joined the large numbers of immigrants demonstrating across the country for rights at the state and Federal level. Many of Sunday’s demonstrators were undocumented workers, mostly from Mexico, but more and more of Minnesota’s immigrant population are asylum seekers. Jennifer Presthold is a lawyer on the frontlines of defending the rights of asylum seekers. She says legislation being debated at the federal and state level will affect them also. KFAI’s Al Ousseynou Ndiay spoke with Prestholdt.
