Oppose the Streamlined Procedures Act

The Streamlined Procedures Act would limit the ability of defendants to have cases reviewed by the federal courts in habeas corpus appeals and effectively speed up executions. If the Act becomes law, it could condemn many innocent people to long-term incarceration or even death.

Alberto Gonzales, current White House Counsel, has been nominated by President Bush to take over the Attorney General position left vacant by John Ashcroft's recent resignation.  Gonzales, rather than uphold the law, has helped the Bush administration circumvent it by urging non-compliance with the Geneva Conventions, leading to human rights abuses in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay. 

Urgent Action: Advancing Justice Through DNA Technology Act

Take action to support this bill, which will authorize $25 million for DNA testing programs in states, create a grant program to help states improve the quality of legal representation in capital cases and establish standards for preserving biological evidence in criminal cases.

Federal Death Penalty Abolition Act of 2003

On June 24, 2003, U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) introduced HR 2574, the Federal Death Penalty Abolition Act of 2003. This legislation, which is a companion bill to Senate legislation introduced by Senator Feingold (D-WI), will put an immediate halt to executions and forbid the imposition of the death penalty as a sentence for violations of federal law.
