New Report "Broken Justice: The Death Penalty in Alabama"

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has published a report on Alabama's capital punishment system. The 32-page report provides an overview of the death penalty system, describes the lack of adequate legal representation available to capital defendants, discusses the possibility that innocent people have been executed, as well as other problems, e.g. costs, prosecutorial misconduct, judicial overrides and death sentencing, mental retardation, mental illness, juveniles and race. The report concludes by making recommendations to the Alabama legislature, Governor and courts.
