The Refugee and Immigrant Program welcomes undergraduate, graduate and law school students to assist with client intake, translation, research and administration. Past and current interns have created client resource databases, assisted with client interviews and case administration, researched important changes in the law and translated documents to support clients' asylum claims.
Possible intern duties:

Draft legal memoranda to volunteer attorneys

Client correspondence

Administrative duties (filing, copying, mailing)

Help to plan special events

Legal and human rights conditions research

Miscellaneous tasks as they arise
Desired qualifications/experience/interests:

Strong organizational and writing skills

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Interest in refugees, immigrants and other new arrivals to Minnesota

Sensitivity to diverse cultures

Fluency in English

Proficiency in a second language a plus
Time commitment:
For fall and spring internship: 8-15 hours per week for a total of 3-4 months
For summer internship: 20-40 hours per week for a total of 8-10 weeks
For a fellowship or special project: varies
Minimum of 160 total hours required for most internship positions
