Since 1984, the The Advocates for Human Rights has provided free legal representation to asylum seekers in the Upper Midwest. The Advocates recruits and trains volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and law students to represent individuals who have fled religious, ethnic, political, gender-based and other forms of persecution in their countries of origin. With the generous assistance of volunteer counsel, The Advocates is able to provide legal representation on more than 200 asylum cases at any given time.
