The Advocates collaborates with a number of local agencies to provide brief legal advice clinics to low income individuals needing legal advice. Through the legal clinics, The Advocates is able to provide brief advice and service to nearly 600 people each year. The legal clinics provide an opportunity for people to get brief legal advice, answers to questions, and assistance with basic forms. The attorneys at the legal clinics are not able to provide ongoing representation. Please see the description of each clinic to determine which is appropriate for your needs.

Park Avenue Foundation/Volunteers Lawyers Network Walk-in Legal Clinic

The Advocates for Human Rights partners with the Park Avenue Foundation and the Volunteer Lawyers Network to provide brief advice and service in immigration legal matters to low-income residents of Hennepin County through this walk-in legal clinic.

Services are provided on a first-come, first-serve walk-in basis every Thursday (except holidays) between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 3400 Park Avenue South, Minneapolis. To qualify for services at the clinic, you must be a low-income resident of Hennepin County who does not have an attorney.

Initially established in 1997 by the Park Avenue Foundation and the Volunteer Lawyers Network, the walk-in legal clinic serves over 500 low-income residents of Hennepin County every year.

Minnesota AIDS Project Legal Advice Clinic

Since 2002 The Advocates staff has been providing legal advice in immigration matters to persons through an onsite legal clinic at the Minnesota AIDS Project. Individuals must be clients of the Minnesota AIDS Project to make an appointment at the clinic. Please contact your case worker or the legal department at Minnesota AIDS Project for more information.

Center for Victims of Torture Legal Advice Clinic

The Advocates has partnered with the Center for Victims of Torture since 2001 to provide torture victims with essential legal advice about asylum and related legal matters.
