Racial Disparity in Infant Mortality in the United States under the Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The Childrens Human Rights Program is compiling a report on racial disparity in infant mortality rates in the United States to be submitted to the United Nations Committee monitoring compliance with the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD). While the United States government is past-due in its reporting obligations under this convention, the government is scheduled to report on United States compliance with CERD in 1999. The Childrens Program report will highlight the extent to which racial disparity in infant mortality rates reflects the failure of the United States government to meet its international obligations under CERD.
