Special Events & Fundraising Internship

Organization Summary/Mission:
The mission of The Advocates for Human Rights is to implement international human rights standards in order to promote civil society and reinforce the rule of law. By involving volunteers in research, education, and advocacy, we build broad constituencies in the United States and select global communities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Working with the Development and Communications team, the Special Events & Fundraising Intern will assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of the Human Rights Awards Dinner – The Advocates for Human Rights largest annual fundraiser. The intern will be responsible for the solicitation of silent/live auction items, support in the development and distribution of event materials, recruitment of volunteers, as well as assisting on event day to make sure the event runs smoothly. The intern will also assist staff with other various fundraising activities, including researching prospective grantmakers, editing current grant materials, and organizing house parties, among other tasks.


Experience and Qualification Requirements:
Self-motivated and able to work in a cooperative, human rights-centered environment.
Must be organized, detail-oriented and have excellent follow-through.
Able to meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Additional graphic design experiences a plus.


Additional Information:
Hours: 10-20 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

The internship will run from Jan/Feb 2010 through June 2010.
